Covid Update

This short note is to let you know that Spalding Springfields Probus Club is meeting again after Covid restrictions have been eased.

Some have decided they will not return and so we wish to recruit more members. If your club has given up, or is just not meeting, please come along and join us.

An Invitation!

Have you missed chatting with your fellow man? Do you like the occasional lunch with friendly people? Do you enjoy trips to places of interest? Are you retired/semi retired and have time for these things?

Try us out and see if you like it.

First two course lunch will be paid for by your Spalding Springfields Probus Club sponsor.

That free lunch is only for those who have never joined or visited another Probus Club.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us HERE.

The Spalding Springfields Probus Club meets on the third Wednesday of every month at the Woodlands Hotel, 80 Pinchbeck Road, Spalding, Lincolnshire, PE11 1QF. Telephone 01775 769933. Below is a picture of the hotel’s front.

The main entrance is on the right of the building as it is shown here.

We gather at 12 Midday for a 12:30 lunch. Most months there is a guest speaker and we do try and vary the content in order that all members are hopefully entertained and not bored. One of our speakers was a gentleman who talked about how his archaeological group dig up aircraft remains and place monuments to the fallen aircrews. In October 2021 our Luncheon Secretary Nigel Wickenden gave a talk on William Angus VC who was the uncle of Nigel’s Scottish Police friend Jim McNulty.

In April we hold the Annual General Meeting and there is therefore no guest speaker. The July meeting is usually in the form of a buffet with partners attending and again there will be no speaker.

I am reaching out on behalf of Mary’s Meals as we would like to extend the offer of talks from our Community Ambassadors, to Spalding Springfields Probus Club.

Mary’s Meals sets up community-run school feeding programmes in some of the world’s poorest communities, where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. It costs just £13.90 to feed a child with Mary’s Meals for a whole school year. For every pound given to us, we spend a minimum of 93p on our charitable activities.

We are particularly keen to promote talks during our Double The Love campaign which is running until 1 March 2019. During this time the UK government will match all public donations to Mary’s Meals’ Double The Love appeal, up to £2 million. Our Double The Love campaign will enable Mary’s Meals to reach chronically hungry children in Zambia with life-changing meals in school. Any additional funds raised will enable Mary’s Meals to reach even more hungry children around the world. Further information on our work and our Double The Love appeal please visit

We understand however that it’s short notice for groups to consider a talk before the beginning of March, as syllabuses are often organised far in advance. We would like to reach out to let Probus clubs know that we have speakers available, if they would consider including a talk from a Mary’s Meals Community Ambassador in the future. Our speakers cover many areas of the UK, and do not charge a fee.

We would be delighted if you could pass on our offer to institutes across Lincolnshire , or let us know the best way to get in touch with them.

    Many thanks,
