October Speaker – Roger Human

Spalding Springfields Probus Club met on Wednesday October 15th for the monthly meeting and our speaker was the club secretary Roger Human. He gave us a talk on the injury to and difficult evacuation of June Roberts (nee Fulwood) in Iraq. She was a WAAF and in the mountains with parts of her unit from RAF Habbaniya. They were over 6,000 feet up in rough terrain with no access to vehicles. At that time helicopters could not land and take off that high up and so she had to be carried.

The story was very interesting and gave an insight into “how it was in the old days.” The pictures Roger showed us just what challenges the rescuers had to deal with in order to get June down safely.
